WEDNESDAY POETRY PROMPT #87 (WHY I BEGAN TO WRITE POETRY?)

For this week's prompt, write a poem about why you started writing poetry. You can be literal, or you can create an elaborate myth. You can be very specific, or you can be vague.

Why I began to write poetry?

A 6th grade school assignment
When my soul believed
In love and laughter
I was asked to open my eyes about Viet Nam,
And comment on it
When I searched my soul,
And my eyes did see
I felt torn, and tortured
I learned of the horror
I learned of the deceit
I wished for World Peace
And I wrote this:
Peace and War

Peace and war don’t go together,
For one is the opposite side.

If you have peace here,
You’ll have ware over there
Why? Just why, can’t there be
Peace and Love all over the World?

‘Cause if there was peace and love,
Over the World, A very many men
Would not be dead....

(Ellen Cernek- Dedicated to Miss Palaza
First poem 6th grade 1971)
Ms Palaza asked me to stay after class
Handed me a blank book and a new pen
“Whatever you do in life, don’t stop writing.”

I have become addicted to pen and paper
I have worn my heart upon my sleeve
I have had private therapy battles
I have explored the inner to become the outer
I have created places and characters
I have been baring my soul and performing emotional seppuku
Upon paper ever since.

APRIL 30, 2010 POEM A DAY CHALLENGE (LET ME GO)

this was written about my 2nd husband (I don't do husbands well) just before we were divorced, thought I would share this.

Let Me Go

I see no resolution
I feel no more
I place the cold steel blade
Against my wrist
It glides easily on my soft skin
One long horizontal slice
It runs like crimson paint
Spats upon the dirty white floor
My mind becomes quiet
As I watch my life flow
Over the dirty life I've led
I become sleepy
I am peaceful
For the first time in my life

I am waiting
Death to kiss
Me,
Hello
Bringing me to the World beyond

My husband screams and disses
Me again

I am awake
I do feel
I have done nothing
Except lose my life
By entwining it with his

It's mine to lose
I am gone
I am so gone
Let me go!

APRIL 30, 2010 SECOND RESPONSE (PATH'S END)

Path’s End
Where is the yellow brick road
That’s in a child’s dream?
Where is the line between
Morals taught/ Lessons learned?
Where is the blue horizon
Just as the storm arrives?
Where is the starry night sky
Just as dawn’s born?
Where is the gingerbread house,
That’s in fairy tale land?
Where is the dream of forever
That’s at path’s end!

APRIL 30, 2010 POEM A DAY CHALLENGE ( THE ENDING)

For today's prompt, write a letting go poem. The poem could be about letting go of a relationship; it could be about letting go of anger; it could be about letting go of a tree branch; or it could even be about, yes, letting go of this April challenge. There are so many things we can let go.

The Ending

always and forever is the time
which I am in your heart
no matter where
no matter when
I am forever your girl
when I am touched by you
my heart quakes
my skin quivers
my soul is consumed with a loving feeling.
my time is not yet right
my love is not here
I am awaiting the ending
so my beginning can come
to share the feelings I posses
the warmth I have to give
and it belongs to you
for I am and will always be
forever your girl.

APRIL 28, 2010 POEM A DAY (BALANCING ON LINE)

For today's prompt, write an end of the line poem. Maybe the narrator of your poem is at the end of his or her line. Other possible lines that have an end: assembly lines, phone lines, power lines, rail lines, graph lines, dotted lines, waiting lines, lines of poetry, etc.

Balancing On Line

In the glooming time
Where day exhales the
Last of the oranges
And the night inhale
The violets of darkness
There you will find
Where reality and magic
Can both be seen

In the dawn
Where night exhales the
Last of ebony
And the day inhales
The first of gold

Where magic and reality
Both will find
Me balancing on the line

Where one can hear rainbows
